d'Arenberg-The Dead Arm-Shiraz-2002-750mL

Producer: d'Arenberg
SKU: 105
Delivery date: Dispatch within 1-3 day's

The 2002 season was characterised by a cold, wet winter and spring, which produced lower yields with good, thick-skinned berries. The cool and dry summer ripened fruit gradually and a warm, dry autumn allowed the grapes to ripen fully, producing some of the best and most exotic characters seen for many years.

94/100
Wine Companion
Clean and quite fragrant; abundant blackberry and dark chocolate fruit; controlled extract and good balance.
, James Halliday Issue: Oct 2004

93/100
The Wine Advocate
After re-tasting the 2002 The Dead Arm Shiraz, I believe my initial rating is correct. It still plays it close to the vest, exhibiting loads of cassis, asphalt, smoke, and barbecue spice-like aromas along with full-bodied flavors. While well-made and impressive, it remains backward and restrained, and does not appear to be up to the quality of either the 2003 or the great 2001.
WA, Robert Parker Jr. Issue: #161

92/100
Wine Spectator
Rich, complex, but not at all heavy-handed, a plush, heady mouthful of black cherry, blackberry, menthol and a wee touch of forest mushroom, all mingling in a rich finish that lasts and lasts.
WS, Harvey Steiman Issue: Dec 31 2004

91/100
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Bright full ruby. Varietally expressive aromas of currant, espresso, smoke, gunflint and sexy oak, with a distinctly feral note. Highly concentrated, dense and smoky, with a strong syrah note of gunflint. Broad, mouthfilling shiraz with lovely framing acidity, intriguing minerality and impressively sweet tannins.

d'Arenberg-The Coppermine Road-Cabernet Sauvignon-2002-750mL

The nose shows intense blackcurrant and cranberry fruit, and the subtle cedary cinnamon spice, barrel-ferment and oak derived aromas, violet and mint scents, as well as liquorice and chocolate smells. Interwined is this wounderful green edge that lifts the wine into a cool climate sepctrum which typifies the cold year. These aromas combine with some cassis, blueberry, and cranberry, with lingering mocha and plumy fruit and are just showing through amongst a long, intense vibrant, gritty fruit tannin finish.

Torbreck-The Steading-Grenache Shiraz Mataro-2002-750mL

The melding of the three traditional Barossa varieties creates a tremendously complex and rewarding wine.

The Grenache and Mataro are from old bush vines that are pruned in the traditional ‘goblet’ style to a limited number of buds, reducing yields and promoting flavour and colour concentration. Only the free run component of the Shiraz is used in the blend to allow the Grenache identity to shine through.
