Each year the same descriptive notes come to mind for this wine: seductive, perfumed, seamless balance and moreish. It is a site that wavers very little in more difficult vintages and excels in the great ones—this is the backbone of By Farr wines. The alluring characters of this vineyard, combined with red fruits, whole bunch, acidity and oak, have produced a beautifully interwoven expression of site and vintage. That’s what it’s all about.
Appealing at once, the nose of our Pinot Noir 2012 is ripe with plum, aromatic spice and red florals. The palate is focussed with a savoury architecture; bittersweet chocolate, dark fruit and spice play with leather and hints of earthiness. Chalky tannins linger on a persistent finish. We particularly enjoy our 2012 pinot noir with soy glazed bbq pork ribs and confit of duck leg.
Delicate garnet in colour, this Pinot Noir shows red cherry and raspberry aromatics, with layers of sweet spices and red fruits. The palate reveals further dark cherry and kirsch flavours. Pure Pinot Noir characters are supported by complex cinnamon and nutmeg spice flavours. Oak is seamlessly woven into the wine, with hints of char and subtle vanillin building on the spice profile in the fruit. Fine, supple tannins support the delicate acidity giving the wine great length of flavour. Our Pinot Noir is an expression of Yarra Valley Pinot Noir in a cooler year, with delicate and pure flavours, length of palate and finesse.
An intense deep red. The bouquet is aromatic with a perfume of red fruits, blackberryand liquorice accompanied with smokey undertones. Lovely structure, fruity with marked tannins. This lingers on the palate making this, hands down, a very handsome wine.
