Complex and tightly structured, with intense lime and grapefruit on the front palate, which slowly changes into a mixture of citrus and pear. Finely chiseled acidity, cedary oak and lees yeastiness give excellent depth and graciously offset the richly textured underlying fruit. Finely interwoven and seamlessly presented, this is a standout Chardonnay of impeccable pedigree with an extended, elegant finish.

When first tasted in June 2002, the wine was superb, wonderfully youthful and promising to live for many years. When tasted by seven judges in the March 2003 Divine State of Origin Challenge, the points ranged between 16.5 and 17.5 out of 20 - in other words, very consistently at high bronze to silver medal, looking full, peachy and slightly old-fashioned. Seven judges can't be wrong; the only possible culprit is random oxidation.
